Harvest 2008
Dear Friend,
I am sure many of you are wondering what we have to celebrate this Harvest Time. Farmers struggle following what was probably the wettest summer in living memory. As I write this letter, every time we switch on our television, it seems that the ‘Credit Crunch’ has claimed another large business. The thought of using our home heating systems for more than the occasional short ‘boost’ seems like a luxury rather than the norm. Can we seriously celebrate Harvest time this year? Some of you may not be thinking about Harvest this year for other, personal reasons. There can be no doubt; many in our community are facing distress and anxiety for what may lie in the days ahead.
Whilst at Harvest time we celebrate God’s provision, we also celebrate Hope. Amidst the ‘storms’ of life we have a faithful God in whom we can put our trust to guide us through. He gives us a sure and certain hope for the future. When we have hope, our souls are raised in anticipation of better days to come. At Harvest, we not only give thanks for what God has given to us, but think about preparing for His Harvest time after which all God’s people will never face trials again, as they go to celebrate in His glory for eternity.
Overleaf you will see details of Harvest Services in our Churches. I hope that you will be able to join us as some point during our celebrations. Harvest is not only about giving thanks, but it is also about looking forward, with hope and expectation.
Yours in Christ,
Malcolm Kingston
